Labor Day for some is just an extra long weekend. Another chance to catch a good sale, perhaps a reason to get with friends and family to have a BBQ and celebrate the last Holiday of the Summer. But if you are a Laborer, this should be viewed as an opportunity to celebrate the Labor Movement. The Labor Day Parade is our chance to show the community that we support one another, and pay tribute to the contributions & achievements of all workers.

Facts about Labor Day

  • The first Labor Day Parade was held in New York City in 1882

  • Labor Day wasn't an Official Holiday until 1887

  • President, Grover Cleveland signed a bill into law on June 28, 1894 declaring Labor Day a National Holiday as a means to make Labor Day stand apart from Workers Day, or May Day ( a Holiday that is celebrated in other countries with the exception of the United States because of its association with Communism, Haymarket affair) http://history.house.gov/Historical-Highlights/1851-1900/The-first-Labor-Day/ https://youtu.be/UXdlgwaYaxQ

Local 900 encourages all of our members to invite their friends and family to come out and join us at the Annual Labor Day Parade....
